Born on Nov. 21, 1944 in Belleville, Ill. and raised on a livestock and grain farm in St. Clair County, Ill. He graduated with a BS and MS from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale in 1968. He was then hired as an Associate Extension Adviser for McDonough County from Aug. 1968 to Aug. 1971.
